Doug Ford ends elections, will appoint Region Council Chair instead

In May 2026, the Doug Ford government shoveled more dirt on the grave of democracy by seizing bureaucratic control of the elected governments of Regional Municipalities throughout Ontario.

They did this by passing euphemistically-named Bill 100, Better Regional Governance Act.

Bill 100 abolishes the electoral process for the position of Regional Chairperson - the most powerful member of Regional Council - and turns the Chair into a bureaucratic government appointee!

That's right. Starting with this October's municipal elections, the voters of Durham Region will no longer be allowed to elect the Regional Chair.

That position will now be appointed by Doug Ford, in a total affront to democracy.

Salvage what we can

The new anti-democratic process for hand-picking Regional Council's Chair involves a government application process... which opens a narrow path where we might still be able to install a socially-conservative person as the next Chair.

Any resident of Durham Region who is a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age can apply for the role. However, the deadline to apply is July 13, 2026.

The municipalities represented on Durham Regional Council are Oshawa, Pickering, Clarington, Ajax, Whitby, Brock, Scugog, and Uxbridge.

We want our pro-life, pro-family supporters who share the Christian values that built Canada to fill that Chair, rather than radical activists who hate God's law and the country founded upon it.

Will you (or someone you know whom you feel would be qualified) take this important step?

Fill that Chair! Apply now!

The official Government of Ontario webpage for applying to become the province's appointee to the Durham Regional Chair position is here.

We encourage you to visit the application webpage, familiarize yourself with the online application process, and take the step toward assuming the key leadership role in Durham Region, in spite of the whims of anti-democratic overlords.

If you plan to apply to be appointed as Durham Regional Chair or if you have any questions, please email us right here.

Thank you for standing up for your family, your friends, and your neighbours in Durham Region!
